
Passion fruit farming
Planting

Passion Fruit prefers well‑drained, fertile loamy soil. Avoid heavy clay and very sandy soils.

Requires 6–8 hours of full, direct sunlight daily.

Dig pits of 60 × 60 × 60 cm. Fill with topsoil + 20–25 kg compost/FYM + 1–2 kg neem cake.

Place seedling upright, ensuring graft union stays above soil level. Backfill gently to avoid air gaps.

Water thoroughly to settle soil.

Mulch with dry leaves, straw, or wood chips to conserve moisture.

Provide temporary shade for 4–6 weeks if sun is intense.
Growing & Care

Water 2–3 times per week, especially in dry weather.

Avoid waterlogging, as passion fruit roots are highly sensitive to rot.

Apply a 5–8 cm layer of organic mulch using coconut husk, straw, dry leaves, or wood chips.

Ensure proper drainage to prevent fungal infections.

Use neem oil or copper‑based sprays for pest and disease control.

Maintain orchard hygiene by removing weeds and fallen fruits.

Remove weeds, fallen fruits, and pruned materials.

Clean area around the tree base.
Harvesting

Common Pests affecting passion fruit are aphids, Mealybugs and Leaf miners

Apply neem oil spray (3–5 ml per litre) every 15 days.

Ensure proper drainage to avoid waterlogging and root rot.

Maintain good airflow through pruning to reduce fungal growth.

Remove weeds, fallen fruits, and pruned materials regularly.

Keep the tree base clean to discourage pest breeding.

Dispose of infected plant material away from the orchard.
