Select healthy saplings
Age: 6–12 months old
Look for strong roots and 4–5 green leaves.
Prepare the pit
Dig a pit about 60 × 60 × 60 cm.
Mix topsoil with compost or farmyard manure.
Remove the cover
If saplings are in polybags, carefully cut and remove the cover.
Avoid damaging roots while removing.
Planting
Place the sapling upright in the pit.
Fill soil around roots firmly but gently.
Ensure the collar region (where stem meets root) is level with the ground.
Watering
Water immediately after planting.
Keep soil moist but not waterlogged.
Shade protection
Young arecanut palms are sensitive to sun scorch.
Provide temporary shade using banana plants, coconut fronds, or fast‑growing trees.
