How to grow Red Napier grass

Updated: Jul 13, 2022

Red Napier requires very fertile, well drained loamy soils having pH range of 5.5 to 8.0.

The crop grows best on alluvial or red soils but can also by grown on well drained black soils

The soil should be well pulverized with the use of a rotavator

If furrows are made it should be 3 feets apart. We also avoid making furrows during planting stage by using rope / wire as marking to plant to stems and make the furrow after 30 days while doing the weeding work

The cuttings are planted flat in the furrows, 2 feets apart and covered with soil one to 2 inches thick

10,000 to 12,000 stems can be planted per acre.

After planting, irrigate to enhance germination. Always irrigate when necessary

Stems will start germinating after 10 to 15 days
